Friday Quiz 5

Here we have another five questions for your historical enjoyment

1. What disability severely reduced King John of Bohemia's fighting efficiency at Crecy?

2. What did Sargent Patrick Masterson call the Eagle he captured at the Battle of Barrosa on 5th March?

3. What did the Boer term kriegsraad mean?

4. What famous battle eclipsed the Battle of Hürtgen Forest?

5. Why was the Canadian Gerald Bull, mysteriously killed in March 1990 important to the Gulf War?

As usual I did not do so well with only two correct, will you beat that?

Answers.

1. He was blind!

2. He called it their Cuckoo

3. A meeting of heads of commandos to discuss tactics before a battle.

4. The Battle of the Bulge

5. He designed the Iraqi super gun and other military pieces

Next weeks quiz will be somehow linked to the Joy of Six, more on that next Friday.

  1. Thought I might have one this week, but sadly not. Two looks like a good score to me.

  3. Not a clue on any of them!
Though I'll take a punt on the Eagle being named Harold (yes, I said the musket was called Harold too, last week - I blame Steptoe and Son, and a habit of quoting "I'm sorry Harold. Please, don't leave me son." Followed by the Albert Steptoe sneer)

  5. A fortuitous trip to fort Nelson last Friday at least means I know what Bull is famous for. As John wasn't French that means we are looking for another disability but like him I find it hard to see anything worse. The Boer one is a case of splitting the word and follows the Great tradition of irregulars democratizing warfare.
