Christmas Present Arrives

This year I had no idea what I wanted so ended up with a chunk of money. Part will sit waiting for future spends but I have been thinking of getting GMT's Command and Colours, either the Ancients or the Napoleonic's but had not connected it to Christmas. Indeed the £50 label had put me off, strange given the amount of times I have spent up to double that for a ASL product.

Suddenly I connected free cash = free game and then it was just a case of choosing which to go after. Well given my Son gets a real kick out of Napoleonic's I had an obvious choice and ordered it Sunday and it arrived today.

Quality and production are high and I was surprised how quick I got the stickers in place for the first scenario having read so many moans about the time it takes. I will continue to finish the blocks over a DVD and will have the lot done before bed tonight I think.

I had given my Nephew Battle Cry years ago, written by the same author and a more basic version. I played my Son at that Tuesday night having borrowed it back and he seems to have the idea fairly in place and so either Friday night or Saturday we will take this baby for a run.

Only issue is that after discussing it with my Son we have decided that I will paint up 6mm bases (6 infantry to a base etc) so as to have an even better experience. Guess the new project idea did not last long but in my defence we will take it slow and besides it's not mine it's the boys....honest.

    1. Well the 6mm Brits will be his, he already has the Brunswicks painted by Dave D no less.

His sister is saying she will take the French LOL

  2. Don't forget to do a custom terrain board and 3d terrain hexes for it. Next you need to try Samurai Battles and C&C ancients. You'll need to convert those to 6mm as well.. You might as well just save yourself the trouble and send your account details to Baccus now to save time.... :-)

    1. Please don't. I can see us getting all the Napoleonic expansions over the next year or two dependant on how fast we play through them.

I can hear Peter laughing in the background.

  3. Commands & Colours with miniatures is a perfect game! As Jake says above, the ancients and Samurai Battles games have seen action on our game tables using 6mm ancients, 6mm Samurai, and 15mm Samurai.

    1. I showed my son the board with some real mini's on it and he is now in overboard mode. I can see some figures getting the call rather soon LOL

  4. I'm looking forward to seeing how your game goes. I agree that there's really no choice but to play it with miniatures instead of blocks with stickers - sacrilege!

    1. We are half way through a game but it got to bed time. He gets the ideas etc. and seems to have some strategic and planning sense so looking good.

    2. I've been playing Lion Rampant and Zombicide with my boys. We don't usually finish a game before bed, but they are eager to come back to it the next day.

    1. I had no issues with the stickers, all done in the one evening. Much faster than painting an army.

Really been impressed with the depth of play it seems to supply. I think it could be two games in two days by tomorrow evening
