Building of the Week - Hedged Fence

Not quite a building but it's another to be released item from Leven Miniatures. Mike asked me to paint these way back when but for some reason I always found another item to paint up. I finally got round to them and like almost everything else I leave off it was painted up quickly and left me wishing I had done it sooner.

Unlike some of the hedge sections I have painted in the past (from other forgotten suppliers) these came up looking more like what they are supposed to rather than resin painted green. This is probably a mix of more experience and the lack of flat bits within the hedges build. Of course the fence sections help distract your eye and the hedge feel is helped through Mikes sculpting of bits of the hedge covering parts of the woodwork, mostly only partially.

The set comes in eight parts, four straights and four corners the same as the dry stone wall set. I have based this set as it will be part of Mikes display stand. I imagine the set will be the same cost as the two wall sets at £3.00 and whilst I see the use for them being more limited than the other two sets it's another great addition to the range because you can bet no one else will be doing anything similar.

  1. Now you see I like that, simply but effective and reminds me that I need to make some hedges this summer - an ever growing list of things to do.

  3. Nice... though I notice it doesn't seem to have a gate...

    1. Your right (on both counts), I did ask Mike about that but he has no plans to add a gate as the original plan was not to release it. It's only painted up as is as that's what you get in the set. It would be easy enough to cut out an opening and add your own gate as I have done on a couple of the wall sets where I wanted a different opening.

    1. I do try to tempt you LOL

Not sure if it's available yet though I am sure you can convince Mike to let a few go

  5. I quite like the fence inside the hedge. As you say, it helps keep the eye moving along. But I do have to ask, is there a gate along one of the faces that we can't see in the photo? I would think not, because there's no break in the hedge.

    1. No gate is supplied though it would not be too difficult to make your own. On the plus side it means you can choose where to have the gate or opening, on the negative it's another thing you have to do yourself adding time to the finish.
