Mixing it up a bit by increasing the number of questions to six, see how you go.
1. At Which battle did Joan of Arc exhort her commanders to attack the English with the following words "You have spurs, use them" ?
2. What was the Land Pattern Musket better known as?
3. President Abraham Lincoln's remark, "I can't spare this man. He fights", concerned which Union general?
4. Who was the first British Secretary of State for Defence?
5. What is the main difference between a PIAT and a Bazooka?
I knew two of these, so better than last week but not great LOL
Can you do better? Just answer in the comments section and name any sources you used if indeed you needed to.
Answers.
1. Patay (1429)
2. Brown Bess
3. General Ulysses S Grant
4. Duncan Sandys
5. The PIAT ammunition was propelled by a heavy duty spring whilst the Bazookas was propelled as a rocket.
Some good answers again and a few that made me chuckle :-)

Without resorting to google, I am good for two.
ReplyDelete1) No idea
2) The Brown Bess
3) No Idea - Grant maybe?
4) No Idea - I'll take a guess and say one of the Pitts
5) Several options depending on context. The most likely "correct" answer is that the PIAT is a spigot mortar while the Bazooka is a rocket launcher. Other options are: A PIAT can be fired from within a closed space and the Bazooka cannot. The PIAT is British, The Bazooka American. and so on the the path of military minutia
Not a bad score Pat, well done

4. Peter Thorneycroft (1964)
Jerry
Cool, all but one and the hardest of them all.

Battle of White Hart Lane - Yids versus Gooners
ReplyDeleteHarold?
A bloke with impressive facial hair
[shrugs shoulders]
Three extra letters and spelt differently.

Only got two without resorting to the inter webs.
ReplyDelete3) Said of Ulysses S. Grant
5) PIAT is a spring loaded weapon and fires the projectile by the expansion of the compressed spring. The Bazooka is a rocket launcher.
I think you should get an extra point for the S in Grants name

I got three, Brown Bess, Grant and spring loaded instead of a rocket.
ReplyDeleteFunny no one got Sec of State for Def
DeleteYou got the same three as me, regards the Secretary of State, I thought that was probably the hardest one though Patay was a bit obscure too
